Characteristics of a Healthy Dating Relationship:

• Trust

• Sharing of thoughts, ideas, and feelings

• Respect for each other’s thoughts, ideas, and feelings

• Encouraging and supporting each other to grow

• Each person feels loves and valued

• Each person feels safe to express disagreement and negative feelings including anger, disappointment, frustration, and so on.

• Each person feels safe when the other person expresses disagreement and negative feelings

Defining Boundaries - A boundary is a property line.  A personal boundary distinguishes what is your emotional or personal property, and what belongs to someone else.

Boundaries do 2 things:

1. DEFINE US - they show what we are and what we are not, what we agree with and what we disagree with, what we love and hate. (being clear about your values, morals, and preferences)

2. PROTECT US - Boundaries keep good things in and bad things out.  When we don’t have clear limits, we can expose ourselves to unhealthy and destructive influences and people.
