In Joyce’s book, “Straight Talk on Insecurity”

10 things you can do to overcome insecurity

1. Eliminate the negative:

If you want to increase yourself acceptance and your opinion of yourself, decide right here and now that not one more negative thing about you will ever come out of your mouth.

Acts 10:15- But the voice spoke again: “Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean.”

2. Celebrate the positive

Mediate and think positive things about yourself.

God will use you when you are mentally ready.  He will direct you toward his will but you must believe you are deserving.

3. Avoid Comparisons

Never compare yourself to anyone else.  If you lack confidence, then this is an important point.

Jeremiah 29:11 -  For I know the plans I have for you declares the lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

4. Focus on Potential not on Limitations

Philippians 4:13 – I can do everything God ask me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power.

Remember God has given us all special gifts and talents and abilities.  We just need to make sure whatever we do it’s in accordance with Gods will for our lives.  However, if we set unrealistic goals…beyond our abilities, we will become frustrated.  We won’t attain and may get frustrated and blame God.

5. Exercise your gift-

Find something you like to do and that you do well, and then do it over and over.

6- Have the Courage to be Different

Galatians 1: 10 - Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ

Are you doing the best you can at whatever you are doing in your life?  Are you following what God has called you to do and not others?

Dare to be different! Have the courage…it will change your life and God will exalt you in the process.

7 – Learn to Cope with Criticism

Be led by the Holy Spirit in all that you do…

Are you someone who needs outside validation?  Are you able to self validate?  Doing what God has asked you to do.

Galatians 5:1 1 So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.

8 – Detemine Your Own Worth

Ephesians 1:6 - So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.

We need to come to a place where we are secure enough in who we are in Christ that we will not allow our sense of worth to be based on the opinions or actions of others.

Recognize what is right for you. Don’t spend all your life trying to win somebody else’s accept or approval.   Remember, you have already been accepted and approved by God…this is where you get all your validation!

9 – Keep Your Flaws in Perspective

2 Corinthians 4:18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

’t focus

2 Samuel 22:31 - As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.

10 – Discover the True Source of Confidence

Question: “In what do you place your confidence?”  Befoe you place it in him, you must remove your confidence m r tce your confidence in the flesh- in appearance, education, finances, position, or relationship.

3 steps to Dependence on God

1. Learn what you are not.  Accept the fact that you are not going to achieve success in life based upon your works.  You must trust God.

2. Learn who He is… Deuteronomy 4:35 - “He showed you these things so you would know that the Lord is God and there is no other.”

3. Learn that as God is so are you.
